...............that canoeing is NOT considered as a TEAM sport? (ok like anyone cares, but i just feel like ranting)
because we're all individualistic paddlers. nevermind if we do k2, or k4. or even took part in dragonboat races to enhance our team spirit. to some people, we are not qualified as a team.
SHEEESH. all i can say is, screw you la.
it's not the award that matters. but what i don't understand is, why is it that the more we win, the less we get?
something just doesn't quite add up there. it's just plain ridiculous. and feeling somewhat betrayed.
one moment they're singing praises of us, and the next moment, after turning down an offer from them, they turn around and tell us in the face "oh sorry, but canoeing doesn't qualify as a team sport"
right.
according to webster dictionary, a team is defined as a number of persons associated in some joint action.
there's no rule saying a team must be made up of 24 people does it? associated in joint action can already what. me and nio should have just used our k2 and apply for the award man. 2 people also team what.
if not for the funding (if it still exists), i would rather not represent the school. if this is the kind of 'support' they're giving us, no thanks man. i'm paddling for the passion, not for the bloody school anyway.
pui.
ok sleep.

Hey, I have a feeling I know what you're referring to, and I understand how you feel. It is somewhat absurd the amount of 'fundings' and attention NUS is showering on them.
I do hope we're referring to the same thing (or team) though, correct me if I'm wrong. :-)
isn't 2 the max number of people that can row in a single canoe?
doesn't that then only count as a pair then?
er just curious ah..this doesn't mean i'm against u hor...
NOOOOO we have 4 people too!!
and 2 pple can be considered a team wat. haven't u watched Amazing Race b4? the host (whatever that guy's name is) always says:
"i'm sorry, but u are the last TEAM to arrive"
and they only have TWO PEOPLE WAT!
which reminds me. we're supposed to join tog lor.
and to anonymous,
errrr.i didn't really mention any names did i? hurs.
*lalala*
4 people in one canoe??wow...i keep picturing pochahontas in my head everytime u say canoe..haha..
err yeah we're joining wat..i went to the US in april to register remember? but u didn't turn up...so they voided us...see la!!
are you stupid or are you dumb.
most pple in nus are in their respective sport for the passion but they're just representing the school for the fundings and equipments/facilities provided.
why everyone's worked up is because src is giving most of the funds to one particular sport resulting in less for the rest.
like duh, u're not the one affected so it's easy for you to say. win lose also money thrown in your face anyway.
your stupidity and arrogance is seriously pissing the shit out of me. and calling them names is totally uncalled for. if you're really who i think u are, u better watch it.
'paddling for the passion'
in canoeing, some necessities for the sport are a boat, a paddle and a life jacket. the majority of current paddlers in singapore depend on their schools to meet their equipment requirements. as a teamNUS varsity sport, it seems logical to me that we would rely on NUS (SRC?) to meet such needs. the amount of funding we receive will definitely have an impact on us.
so we're an individual sport. at our local competitions, the existence of an overall champion invariably rises. without the entire canoeing team, the teamNUS varsity canoeing team would not be able to clinch sufficient medals to become the overall champion, based on a medal tally. equity causes one to be indignant about the apparent denial that this team to which we belong, is important. xiaohui's 'rantings' show her identification with and belongingness to the canoeing team.
why should the canoeists hate the dragonboaters? as a matter of fact I don't think any one of them do..
then again, it's the dragonboaters that are hating the canoeists...dragonboaters are constantly getting their ass whopped by canoeists in every race…even little boys and girls from njc can paddle the dragonboat better than these ‘experts’.
yupp... i agree..
most of the canoeing teams that form a Dragonboat generally win...
something is wrong with the dragonboat ppl sia...
well, after every dragonboat event, there will always be this canoeists vs dragonboaters issue.
maybe the 2 sports should just combine to shut everyone up.
and what's wrong with doing something for passion AND a motive? i don't see why trying to gain support from the school in terms of funding is something wrong.
agreed.
some people are plain dumb.
let us forgive no brainers.
woah.
ok i do feel there's some sort of favortism. i do not belong to any form of sports in NUS btw, but i do notice the apparent, erm, preference for certain sports.
whatever it is, do not be disheartened and continue showing the rest what you've got :-)

Amen to that.
But my impression of dragonboaters just dropped into the negative zone.... Lucky I don't do sports for NUS..... good to be a nerd
ordinary gal
hahaha.
yah man. you should all be geeks la. no need to worry about fundings or favourtism ;p
everybody calm down!
I'm not from NUS but from what I have heard from my friends in sports there, the dragon boat team does get preferential treatment.
I guess some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouths while others are born with a wooden fork up their arse.
hahaha.
are u serious?? oh well. maybe dragonboat is the only sport that is media-worthy, with the PM cup and all so nus could use that for some sort of attention.
