it's never too late

many a times, we take our family for granted, often choosing to go out with friends for dinner, drinks, movies, chilling instead of just staying home to spend time with our parents.

and how many times have we heard our mom/dad telling us that they hardly see us around at home/forgotten how we've looked like/that we treat the house like a hotel, just purely for sleeping purposes?

i think many of us are guilty of the above scenarios, that more often than not, we've forgotten the fact that the reason why we all have a roof over our heads, decent beds to sleeps on is because of our parents' hard work. and yet how many of us actually take the time or effort to thank them, or even the initiative to arrange a meal with them? i'm pretty sure in most cases it's always them 'inviting' us to family dinners in their attempts to remind us we still have a family.

i'm pretty much guilty of all these myself but ever since my mom was diagnosed with cancer a year back, i never knew how afraid i was of losing my family and how much i've taken them for granted. And through these i've also realized how i've taken my health for granted, stressing over the most trivial matters and getting my piriorities all wrong. u watch depressing shows with people diagnosed with all kinds of terminal illnesses but once the television is switched off, the emotions go away too. but when u're faced with an actual situation of a loved one being sick, u realized how scary it is and emotionally draining to be worrying everyday, and suddenly everything else doesn't matter as much anymore.

to those who haven't been spending much time with your family, i urge u to show some appreciation, to thank them, give them a hug, bring them out or simply tell them that u love them. as cliche as it sounds, life is fragile and we should learn to treasure our loved ones.

i love you, mom and dad
