I was running at macritchie on sunday along the wooden plank-like walkway and it was pretty calming cos of the reservoir on one side and the nature reserve on the other.
Well at least it was calming for the first 20 mins of the run. The thing about nature reserve is u never know what's lurking behind those thick vegetation.
And so 20 mins into the run i was pretty far in, past the 1km mark of the reservoir and it was getting kinda deserted cos honestly speaking, you wouldn't come this far if u're taking a leisurely stroll.
So there was i, happily running thinking how peaceful it was when i heard some rustling sound.
ok chill it's probably some pesky monkeys.
And then i heard it again.
Knn. I hope it's not some mentally retarded rapist waiting in the woods to pounce on me.
And then i came across this sign beside the bushes: Let hissing snakes lie.
Fuck sia!! U mean there are snakes round here??!!
Like duh. it's a nature reserve for christ's sake. what was i thinking?? I turned and practically sprinted for the next 5 mins till i see some form of civilisation.
I dunno why the thought of snakes scared the shit outta me more than crazy rapists and rabies-infested monkeys. Maybe i thought i could outrun them if i do see them but a snake could probably slither faster than me. And if i were to get eaten, bitten, or strangled to death, nobody would know!!! :( i might even fall into the reservoir in attempts to fight the snake, drown and turn all bloated and wrinkled beyond recognition. How disturbing.
Oh mannnnnn. The fear of the unknown. and my vivid imagination is championz. Totally spoilt my run. Raaaaar. My initial plans of a 10km run reduced to barely 8km. Sian ji bua. for all we know, it could be a cute little harmless rabbit scurrying around. ZZZZ.
